12 killer aps for IDTGV

1. Outsource to the customer
Thanks to this concept, IDTGV is outsourcing to the customer. Indeed, customer has to choose himself what ticket he wants online. He is responsible of his trip..

2. Canibalize your own market
In a certain way, SNCF is canibalizing is own market because these ticket are really cheap (only 20 euros to go to bordeaux !), compare to other TGV's ticket. A lot of person should be interested instead of paying an expensive price.

3. Treat the customer as a market segment of one
Because in IDTGV there are two available spaces : IDzen and IDzap. SNCF is preocupated by what interested customers: they created this special place for they envy : that's why it should seduce them.

4. Create community of value
In this special train, customers will be regrouped into two category: the "sleepers" and the "party team"! In genarl in former train, people who wanted to spleep where ofetn disturbed by people who wanted to have fun? That's whyu this new concept will organized two community!

5. Replace rude interface with learning interface
with these new trains, SNCF created a new space, more confortable, more attractive ! Moreover, they also created a special website : IDTGV, to buy ticket online. This is a quite good example of new interface !

6. Ensure continuity for customer, not for yourself
Bob told use about a bad story that happens to him the first time he took the train: the controlor didn't recognize the ticket he printed himself.. If IDTGV wants to woks they have to assure a good continuity.

7. Give away as much informations as you can
IDTGV have great promotion, a good website, leaflet in the sation... They try to keep us inform of this new concept.. Maybe they should have more ads on television, on internet.

8. Structure every transaction as a joint venture
They have to get good relations with their partner, I think more particularly in the restaurant aera.

9. Treat your asset as liability
Even if the concept is a great new one, SNCF has to keep inventing new ideas , to make tis concept eternelly new! For example masse chair, Television in 3D, Free WiFi...

Level 3 - IDTGV, IDZAP, IDZEN

IDTGV is a recent concept of SNCF wich is based on 3 ideas:
- The first one: you can only reserve your tickets on the website : so the target is only for internet users who knows how a computer works and how to reserved tickets on the web.
- The second idea is that the ticket price are really cheap if you reserve soon enough
- The last one the train is divided in two specific areas: IDZen for person who wants to take a rest, and IDZap for person who wants to have fun, watch video, or play games.

This concept is quite interesting for our class because it's show how new technology can be a marketing tool, in order to propose new "products" to customers. Moreover, the specific target "internet users" should be interested by IDTGV because the are supposed to be interested by new technology, and how to take advantages of it (everything goes faster, they can book cheap trips, they can personalize their trip)

I think that the website that intersted me less was the fan list because I really not a "fan", i don't like the idea of being "obsessed". Moreover, I didn't see the real goal of write a name of a lot of lists.. for what??
However, if someone wants to earn money, it can be a form of buisness model. Indeed, if there are severals links, we can suppose that at least several persons will visit the website of the fan, so it can be really interesting for him to sell space on his site to ads.

Today I presented a example of a website "outsourcing to the customers" named Akutten. Indeed this site is a design studio on line which proposed to internet users to create their proper version of this site. It can seems a little bit complicated but just try it, you will expressed your hidden art talent! I thought it would be interesting because it shows how designers are "offering" their work to the internet users, and how this "work" can be quite funny!

Sylvain et R1 introduced to us their podcast: (quite fun!), now we all know how to open a bottle ! They shows us that it was really easy to put a video on line thanks to a simple camera. Moreover it is really clear that it is more interesting to watch a video than a simple text, because it's animated, even if the story (just open a bottle!) seems simple! La vie pratique facile

Chantal Marie shows to us an original website : someone write for us a story were you have chosen the name of the hero, the essential story, what he likes, what he hates.. After that you can order your personalized book! It's an evidence that day after day, internet and the new technology will interfer in the way we access to culture, in the way we have fun, we learn things. Level One:

What is a wiki? What is it used for?
It’s a group of Web pages that allows users to add content, as on an Internet forum but also permits others (often completely unrestricted) to edit the content. A defining characteristic of wiki technology is the ease with which pages can be created and updated. Wikis generally are designed with the philosophy of making it easy to correct mistakes, rather than making it difficult to make them.

Where does the word wiki come from? Why does this meaning apply to the way it is used and applied?
From hawaiien "wiki-wiki", which means "fast". The term wiki refers to the collaborative software (wiki engine) used to create website.

Do you use it, when and how?
I use it when I can’t find on Internet a right definition, when I want to have a “neutral point of view" under which notable perspectives are summarized without an attempt to determine an objective truth.

Why is it helpful to you?
I use it also when I want to have clear explanation, because most of the time, it’s not a professional person who write. (Even if Wikipedia's status as a reference work has been controversial. Its open nature allows vandalism, inaccuracy, and opinion. It has also been criticized for systemic bias, preference of consensus to credentials, and a perceived lack of accountability and authority when compared with traditional encyclopedias)

Why does it have such a strong international impact? What is inherent in it that makes international diffusion faster?
Wikipedia's slogan is "The Free Encyclopedia that anyone can edit", and the project is described by its founder Jimmy Wales as "an effort to create and distribute a free encyclopedia of the highest possible quality to every single person on the planet in their own language." : It’s internet ideal situation: everybody everywhere in the world can help each other, as if it was a community.

1 . The exercise we did in class this week involved finding information. What was your best source of information to answer the questions? Why? What other strategies did you use to answer the questions?

To answer the questions I searched on Google several definitions of the word, on dictionary as Wikipédia, specifics blogs, or Internet websites. Then I tried to understand exactly what the word means and to finish I wrote what I have understood, my definition, in my blog.
My best source was Wikipédia: Indeed, in this particular dictionary, I could read different definition, even if sometimes it’s not absolutely right (because definition can be written by everybody). Most of the time it was pretty clear and well argued.

2 . At the end of class, we had a collection of answers available to all of you in the form of each student's blog. What is this effect called and what does it do? How can it be useful to you? Did you use it? What types of situations or tasks can it be useful in?

I felt has if we were a “Community”, because I think that all our blogs are a concret realization of what you called “generosity”. Indeed, thanks to it we can all share easily our different work, get new ideas. We are all linked by the same work and we have all a different space to answer to the questions. In this case, blogs are kind of “personal virtual desk”: and we can visit them, left messages and help us each other.
I use it now to write all my e-learning work. And I can also record my podcast, share images, ideas, left questions: If someone knows the answers, he can send me a message: it’s a new easy way to communicate.

3 .What is the difference between the attitude and approach of French people (in general) and Americans (in general) to technology and the adoption of new technologies? Should this change? How? What would help it change?

Yesterday, we had a very interesting conversation with one of our French professor about this subject. We were talking about new technology emergence and new habits. We agreed that in general French reaction with new technology was not really good, because most of the times French aren’t “aficionados”, they need time to get used new way of communication. But why?
Maybe because of our Latin roots, maybe because changes effrayed them (us), maybe because most of the time it’s a foreign technology, made for more open,-minded people, they need to think about it , to see the interests before trying it. Sometimes, it creates a barrier, which seems impossible to cross. But at last, French will get used to this new technology as everybody. It’s just a little bit longer… Whereas Americans want to believe in new technology, they are less refractory to changes. It sure that they are more open minded, and research and development are really better there than in France. French should be more open-minded and Americans should think more of the impact of new technology.

4 . In more and more professions, the application of e-communications skills like we are developing are increasingly important. Give three examples of professions you are interested in where this is the case.
- I want to work for a media, like a radio (I worked for NRJ several years ago for example), or a television, : most of the time, big media have a website, so I could also propose new ideas.
- I would like to work for a music label and I think that e-communication will be very helpful in order to discover new talents on the Internet
- I would like also work in a agency or a web agency : all the new technology on the web that I know will be very interesting because I could be able to propose new ideas to the customers (like podcast, blog… Moreover I already understand how it’s working now)

5 . Concerning the practice of ripping: what is your point of view on this practice? Is it illegal? Is it unethical? What are the moral considerations? Do you consider it normal? Why?

“Ripping is the process of copying the audio or video data from one media form, DVD or Compact Disc, to a hard disk. While the original media is typically digital, the extraction of analog media such as VHS video or vinyl records to a digital format can also be referred to as "ripping" by extension. Exemple: when I copy a music cd in my computer or when I keep it on my hard disk ( Itunes)…”.
I am abslutly for the practice of ripping. Because most of the time , the person which download music for exemple, would have never buy the CD. Culture must be accessible to everybody, : moreover for the music label and the artist it represents nothing. They should think with new technology to sell their music on line less expensive. I consider it’s normal, even if I don’t do it.
It’s actually illegal but I can’t consider it’s unethical. It’s just a problem of money for the company.

1. Learning a language, like English, is not just learning vocabulary and grammar and studying books. It is also learning how to use the language in order to get things accomplished, create contact, maintain relationships, establish trust and so on. These are the social or professional functions of the language.

In this respect, what are the ways you are learning English in our class by internet?
- Before the class I had never hear anything about podcasts, but since the day I discover it, I find this way of communicate very interesting: Indeed I can hear english tracks, from very different sources. So I can acquire vocabulary on a lot of themes. Moreover I discover recently that their where “mac podcasts” like “Mac attack” or “Mac Cast”, and my subject for one my exam of the CELSA is about Mac and virtual communities. So, I will certainly use these English podcasts in order to create my corpus.
- Our class is an opportunity because we have to write a lot in order to communicate: we can acquire more reactivity on an multimedia support and our writing English is more fluent. Moreover we can also keep our “window” with all our answers, so we can check our grammar mistakes.
- But it’s more than writing fast and be reactive in english, we have to open our mind to an other culture, the e-learning culture, and try to as curious as possible, with an other langage. I mean that it’s not always easy to be open minded, and it’s more difficult to be clear and to understand everything in English. But if we keep trying we will get a better English, a better comprehension of new media (podcasts, blog, ftp..), and a better way of thinking.

How are you creating and maintaining contact and relationships?
- I have American friends living in Texas and in San Francisco, so regularly we send us emails, we chat with msn in English, it is more social. Now with the new MSN version, we can also send us little audio files instead of writing. So I can hear English accent and made me more familiar with the right pronunciation.
- Moreover I will maybe do an internship in San Francisco, so I had also to communicate differently (more professional) with a human resources director, in my cover letter and my CV : Consequently I will (maybe) work in an american firm.

How are you using English? What are the ways you could do this better?
- I watch videos original version
- I read in English even French authors (Stephen king and the Comte of Monte Cristo)
- The way I could do this better is to buy regularly an English newspaper , the Times or Herald Tribune for example: because these journals look like Le Monde and it has a journalistic style, so I will understand clearly articles but also analyze a new treatment of information.

However, anonymous access is also popular.

- It is useful beceause thanks to this protocol we can put all our files directly on a server, bu not only because we can pass them froma computer to an other, keep a version on the web…

- I don’t have one but apparently wanadoo offer me one so I will surely use it to create my one website where I will present my CV and works to human ressources directors.

3. Our class has a special approach to interactivity. It is not possible to have the same interaction of a normal class, but it offers several new ways of interacting. What are these? What are the ways that are especially interesting to you? How could they work better? What technical solutions can you suggest?
- We write in a common window, all at the same times, it goes sometimes really fast but at the end we can keep a writing files with all our discussions, so we correct mistakes.

I like msn to communicate, even if sometimes it's hard to follow all the conversation.

4. Prepare one question about the last class: what did you not understand? What would like to have more information on and why? What question did our discussion cause you to ask?

- Last class I didn't understand what was a FTP protocol, but now I am at the "discovery step", so I am more familiar with this word and with the advantages of this protocol.

I would like to have more informations in order to create my own website. I hope it will help me to communicate.
